Explore this ideaFretSN — Digital Road Freight
Marketplace connecting cargo shippers and road carriers in Senegal, to optimize truck fill rates and reduce transport costs.
The Problem
Senegalese trucks travel empty 40% of the time on the Dakar-Ziguinchor, Dakar-Tambacounda, and Dakar-Saint-Louis routes due to lack of coordination between shippers and carriers. SMEs shipping goods to regions pay exorbitant rates to intermediaries who transport nothing. Carriers lose thousands of FCFA in revenue on every empty return trip.
The Opportunity
Road freight volume in Senegal represents over 500 billion FCFA/year. Logistics sector digitization in West Africa grows at 30% per year. The development of the Diamniadio agropole and regional industrial zones generates new B2B freight needs. Similar models (Kobo360 in Nigeria, Lori Systems in Kenya) have raised hundreds of millions of dollars.
The Concept
FretSN lets a shipper post their transport request (origin, destination, type of goods, weight, date) in 2 minutes. Partner carriers receive the request in real time and submit their offers. The shipper chooses in 1 click. Payment is secured on the platform and released upon GPS-confirmed delivery. A bilateral rating system builds trust. FretSN also offers the 'return freight' feature allowing trucks to fill their return journey at reduced rates.
The "Secret Sauce" (USP)
- Automatic return freight: the algorithm automatically proposes compatible return freight to empty trucks — 30% additional revenue for carriers
- GPS-released secured payment: the carrier cannot collect before delivery is GPS-confirmed — end of scams and cargo losses
- Real-time dynamic pricing: price drops when multiple trucks are available on the same route — 15-25% savings for the shipper
