The Problem
Dental care in Senegal is extremely expensive (a scaling costs 25,000 to 50,000 FCFA at a private clinic) and inaccessible to middle-income households. Over 70% of Senegalese have never seen a dentist in their life due to cost and geographic proximity. Untreated cavities, abscesses, and periodontal diseases lead to serious complications (diabetes, cardiovascular diseases) and costly hospital emergencies.
The Opportunity
The African dental market grows at 9% per year. Community health mutuals (especially dahiras) are looking for dental care partners at preferential rates. Companies have a legal obligation to cover the dental health of their employees — DentAfrik can offer corporate contracts.
The Concept
DentAfrik operates 3 types of structures: low-cost fixed clinics in peripheral neighborhoods (Pikine, Guédiawaye), a mobile dental van that visits companies and markets, and a tele-dentistry unit (video consultation with prescription from a qualified dentist). Rates: scaling at 8,000 FCFA, filling at 12,000 FCFA, extraction at 10,000 FCFA — 60% cheaper than competing clinics. An annual prevention plan at 20,000 FCFA (3 visits + hygiene kit) is offered as a family subscription.
