ClinIA Senegal — AI Medical Diagnosis

AI-assisted medical diagnostic tool for doctors and health workers in low-resource areas of Senegal.

Problem

The Problem

In Senegal, community health workers and rural health post nurses must diagnose complex diseases (malaria, tuberculosis, malnutrition) with little training and no decision-support tools. Diagnostic errors kill thousands of people every year, particularly children under 5. A specialist doctor is often several hours' drive from rural areas.

Opportunity

The Opportunity

WHO and international donors (USAID, Gates Foundation) are massively investing in digital health tools for Africa. The HealthTech market in Sub-Saharan Africa will reach $11 billion by 2030. Medical AI models have reached 90%+ accuracy in diagnosing tropical diseases thanks to machine learning advances.

The Concept

ClinIA is an offline mobile application (works without internet) that guides the health worker through an AI-enriched clinical decision tree: symptoms, vital signs, rapid test results. The app suggests a probable diagnosis, a first-line treatment compliant with Ministry of Health protocols, and alerts if medical evacuation is needed. Data is synchronized when connectivity is available to feed epidemiological surveillance. Versions available in French and national languages (Wolof, Pulaar).

The "Secret Sauce" (USP)

  • Full offline mode: works without internet in the most remote areas of Senegal — no competitor truly does this
  • Integrated Ministry of Health protocols: AI strictly follows national guidelines, reducing prescription errors and ensuring legal compliance
  • Real-time epidemiological surveillance: each aggregated diagnosis alerts the Ministry about emerging disease outbreaks — considerable public health value

Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

To get started quickly:

Offline Android app with decision tree for 10 priority pathologies (malaria, diarrhea, ARI), tested with 20 health workers in the Kaolack region for 3 months.
