Marketplace dedicated to Senegalese artisans to sell their creations internationally with integrated shipping and creator storytelling.
The Problem
Senegalese artisans (jewelers, weavers, sculptors) sell mainly at local markets and depend on tourists, making them vulnerable to crises. Access to international markets is blocked by language barriers, export logistics, and lack of digital tools. Their unique creations are undervalued compared to imported industrial products.
The Opportunity
The global African crafts market is estimated at $1.2 billion and growing at 9% per year. The African diaspora in Europe and the USA seeks authentic products for home decoration. Platforms like Etsy don't adequately cover West Africa and don't handle local logistics.
The Concept
Wakh'Art is a bilingual (FR/EN) marketplace where each artisan has a digital storefront with professional photos, a presentation video, and the story behind their creation. Buyers worldwide order online; the platform handles secure packaging, customs labeling, and shipping via DHL/Colissimo. A local team of photographers and writers helps each artisan create their profile. Payments are received via Wave or bank transfer, eliminating the Visa card barrier.
The "Secret Sauce" (USP)
- Certified storytelling: each product comes with the artisan's story and making process, making the purchase emotional and memorable
- Turnkey export logistics: the platform handles everything (packaging, customs, DHL) — the artisan just creates
- Guaranteed local payment: artisans receive earnings via Wave or mobile money without needing an international bank account
